Some criticism has blown up recently over video (that should never have been posted) of a security team apparently defending its ship from attack by Somali pirates. The article posted here provides a general summary of the issues. I disagree with the title of the article, as probably do several of the people interviewed for it. As for the video itself, it appears likely that the security team acted appropriately to prevent pirates from boarding. At the close ranges of engagement, there isn't much time to escalate force in a measured way: the time between the moment warning shots need to fired and pirates are alongside can be very short.
